A 15-month study linking King’s College of Mental Health Research data with Department of Work and Pensions records of benefit claims and work programmes to assess the pattern of welfare benefits among UK veterans and examine associations between pre-, in- and post-Service factors, veteran unemployment, and disability benefit claims, as well as the effects of work-related training courses.

Follow-on work from OCOC project including four more deep dives to extend the coverage of the research, further development and exploitation of the self-assessment tool from the main project, a half-day event for the lead officers on Covenant implementation in London Boroughs and an electronic report.

This work has been commissioned by FiMT to consider how the recommendations made in the 2013 Transition Mapping Study have been implemented, with a particular focus on employment and the transferability of skills and qualifications.

Research carried out by Dr Deidre MacManus into offending behaviour, mental health and the welfare needs of ex-Service personnel entering the criminal justice system.

A 6-month study to investigate gambling behaviour among post national service veterans using the 2007 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey to assess any relationships between length of active service and extent of gambling problems (if any), and to explore associations between gambling related problems and comorbidities such as alcohol and family issues.

Research to understand the commercial benefits that ex-Service personnel can bring to a business. The report was published in November 2016.

A 24 hour consultation entitled “Back to Civvy Street: How can we better support individuals to lead more successful civilian lives after a career in the UK Armed Forces?”. Senior participants from the MOD and Government to Military Charity, Employment, and Training sectors, analysed 3 transition-related areas: employment and housing as a route to economic stability; social networks as a form of resilience; and altering public perception that service leavers are damaged individuals. FiMT commissioned an evaluation the Transition Mapping Studies 2013, to understand the extent and manner in which they have influenced and impacted on policy development and service delivery.

Sponsoring a 2-year Randomised Control Trial of modular motion-assisted memory desensitisation and reconsolidation (3MDR) for treatment-resistant PTSD (new treatment). The report is due to complete August 2019.
