This project will be a thorough and comprehensive piece of research to identify and examine the barriers to female veterans making a successful and sustainable transition to civilian life in the UK.

FiMT has awarded £220,000 to the King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR), based at King’s College London, to carry out a study examining the barriers for female veterans preventing them from making a successful and sustainable transition to civilian life in the UK.

The research team at KCMHR, led by Dr Sharon Stevelink, will carry out a scoping review to identify what charitable and statutory support currently exists in the UK for female veterans, interview female veterans from each of the Services and, using the KCHMR Health and Wellbeing Cohort Study, analyse differences in outcomes between female veterans and male veterans, as well as differences between female veterans and their civilian counterparts.

The research will commence in June 2022 and is expected to run for 24 months.
