A grant over 3 years to fund a project aimed at meeting the needs and providing effective services for veterans serving criminal sentences in the community. In addition a grant was awarded to enable the delivery of an e learning product aimed at those working with ex-Service personnel.

Impact

This project increased awareness of the needs of veterans in the criminal justice system to those working in the sector. The project opened opportunities for the Probation Institute to help probation services and the voluntary sector to better identify and engage with the need of veterans.

As a result of the project, training materials were created and the National Probation Service (NPS) agreed to develop and publish the materials and to hold two pilots of the training which were well attended and received. An e-learning module was also created and has been made available to Her Majesty’s Prisons and Probation Service or all practitioners and managers in probation and prisons as appropriate, Community Rehabilitation Companies and to voluntary organizations working with offenders through CLINKS. The module was rolled out across the NPS in 2019 as continuous professional development.
