He has a clinical research background with over 80 peer reviewed publications, latterly concentrating on the psychology of and the psychiatric consequences of chronic disease. He has been an RAF Reservist Medical Officer for over 30 years with deployed experience as an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer or physician in the Middle East, Afghanistan and South Sudan. He holds a private pilots licence with 16 different aircraft in his log book, most recently a 1933 Tiger Moth.
