History

The initial bid

The bid was put together by a consortium comprising Cobseo members and partners from non-Service charities and other organisations.

Cobseo members have over 7000 “charity years” experience in supporting the military family to which was added the collective experience of partners in mental health, disability and return-to-work schemes.

Background

The Forces in Mind bid was submitted to the Big Lottery Fund (the Fund) by the Cobseo Partnership on 21st September 2010 and Cobseo was announced as the preferred bidder on 17 November 2010.  A  Forces in Mind Trust Project Director (PD) was then appointed on 17 January 2011.  The PD, with the support of the then Cobseo Secretary and Grants Manager from Seafarers UK, submitted a Business Plan and Manual of Regulations to the Fund in May 2011.  The BIG England Committee approved the bid in November 2011 which allowed registration of the company, FIM Trustee Limited, as the sole corporate trustee. The Forces in Mind Trust was established by a trust deed between the Fund, as the Founder, and the corporate trustee at the end of November.  The Trust became a registered charity in England & Wales on 31 January 2012.
